Originally formed in Ohio as the Bloody Hollys, and later renamed The Cyril Lords in 2002 in Detroit, this trio rapidly accelerated through the ranks to support such notables as Andre Williams, The Cramps, The Raveonettes, Link Wray, The Von Bondies, The Datsuns, Detroit Cobras, The Kills, The Dirtbombs, The Sights, and The Greenhornes, while getting press from international music journals, such as the UK’s NME. The Cyril Lords first single appeared on an upstart Detroit label that housed artists such as Blanche, The Mooney Suzuki, The Waxwings, The Sights, Adult, Dirtbombs, and The Tractenburg Family Slideshow Players. New York City’s The Village Voice listed the record in its 2003 top-ten singles list. A video naturally followed, directed by Nick Hill (Brendan Benson, The Hentchmen), giving the group an opportunity to exhibit its range and presence. The band returned to the studio in 2005 and recorded their first full-length LP, “Motherland”, with renowned Detroit producer Al Sutton.
